Are limewash and microcement wall finishes suitable for Dubai apartments?
I want to do a feature wall in my living room in my Dubai apartment — I've seen limewash and microcement finishes that I love the look of. Are these types of decorative finishes suitable for Dubai's climate and humidity? And roughly how much more do they cost than standard paint?

Both limewash and microcement finishes are suitable for Dubai — with some important caveats. Limewash: Excellent for Dubai. It's breathable, naturally antimicrobial, and handles humidity well. The slightly uneven, aged texture looks stunning and hides minor wall imperfections. Cost: AED 35–AED 80 per square metre for professional application (3–4x standard paint). It does fade slightly over time in direct sunlight, which actually enhances the aged look. Microcement: Also suitable but requires a skilled applicator. Dubai's temperature swings between heavily air-conditioned interiors and external heat can cause microcement to develop hairline cracks if not properly applied and sealed. Always ask for a portfolio of completed Dubai projects from any applicator. Cost: AED 80–AED 180 per square metre depending on the number of coats and sealer. Both finishes add significant visual impact that standard paint simply can't achieve. If budget is the primary concern, limewash gives the most impact per dirham.
