Can I install an EV charger in my Dubai apartment building car park?

Installing an EV charger in a Dubai apartment building car park is possible but depends on the building and requires approval. In most Dubai apartment buildings, car parks are common property managed by the building management company or owners association. You cannot install anything in common areas without their approval. Start by submitting a formal written request to building management. Explain what you want to install, the charger type and power requirements, and how you propose to handle the electrical supply. Building management responses vary. Some buildings have already installed shared EV charging infrastructure or are open to individual charger requests. Others have blanket prohibitions or are concerned about electrical load on the building's supply. If your building refuses, DEWA's Green Charger public network is extensive across Dubai. Check the DEWA EV Green Charger app for nearby locations. If approval is granted, the electrical work must be done by a DEWA-approved contractor. A dedicated circuit from the building's supply (or your apartment's meter) to your parking space is required. DEWA approval for the connection is typically needed. For EV charger type: a standard home Level 2 charger (7kW, Type 2 socket) is the right choice for overnight home charging. It charges most electric vehicles to full overnight. Fast DC chargers are not suitable for home installation. For villa owners the process is simpler: a DEWA-approved electrician runs a dedicated circuit from your DB board to the garage and installs the charger. Typical cost is AED 2,000-4,500 installed depending on the cable run length. BidMyJob.ae connects you with licensed electricians in Dubai experienced in EV charger installation.
