Is climate-controlled storage in Dubai worth the extra cost?

I'm relocating from Dubai to London in June for 18 months and want to keep my furniture rather than sell it. What are my storage options in Dubai, and is climate-controlled storage really necessary or is it just a way to charge more?

Climate-controlled storage is absolutely necessary for most household items in Dubai — it's not a premium upsell. Here's why: Dubai warehouse temperatures without climate control reach 50°C+ in summer. At those temperatures, electronics fail permanently, wooden furniture warps and cracks, leather peels and discolours, artwork and photos are destroyed, wine is ruined, and clothing can develop mould from the humidity-to-heat cycle. What can safely go in non-climate-controlled storage: metal garden furniture, tools, bicycles, outdoor equipment. What must go in climate-controlled: everything else. On pricing: standard storage runs AED 80–200/month for a small unit, climate-controlled runs AED 150–400/month for equivalent size. For 18 months away, the premium is worth every dirham. Also ask specifically about humidity control — some facilities claim 'air-conditioned' but don't control humidity, which is equally damaging.
