Is professional marble floor polishing worth it in Dubai or can I do it myself?

Our villa has marble floors throughout and they've become very dull over the past 2 years. I've been told we need polishing but I've also seen products you can use yourself. Is professional marble polishing worth the cost or can I DIY it?

Professional marble polishing is worth it — DIY products cannot replicate the results and can actually make things worse. Here's why: Marble dulling happens for two reasons: microscopic surface scratches from foot traffic (requires diamond abrasive polishing to remove) and etching from acidic substances like cleaning products, lemon juice, or cola (also requires mechanical polishing to remove). DIY marble polishing products (sprays, creams) work by filling microscopic scratches with wax or silicone — they create a temporary gloss that lasts weeks to months and doesn't address the underlying damage. Professional diamond polishing physically removes a micron-thin layer of marble to reveal fresh stone, then seals it with a crystalliser or densifier. The result lasts 2–3 years with proper maintenance. For a villa with marble throughout, professional polishing costs AED 3–6 per square foot. A 200sqm villa floor costs AED 600–1,200 — reasonable for a result that transforms the property. Maintain between polishes with a pH-neutral marble cleaner (never vinegar, bleach, or general surface sprays).
