How do I stop pigeons nesting on my Dubai villa balcony or AC unit?

Pigeons in Dubai are a persistent problem and require proper physical deterrents to solve permanently. DIY solutions like fake owls or reflective tape rarely work in an urban environment where pigeons quickly learn to ignore them.

The most effective professional solutions are:

Bird spikes: stainless steel spikes installed along ledges, balcony railings, and the top edges of AC units. They prevent landing without harming the birds. Cost-effective and very durable in Dubai's climate. This is usually the first recommendation for balconies.

Bird netting: heavy-duty netting stretched across the entire balcony area to block access completely. More expensive than spikes but provides total protection. Ideal if pigeons are accessing the balcony from multiple angles.

For your outdoor AC unit specifically, deal with this urgently. Nesting material inside the unit blocks drainage and can damage the fan blades and motor. Have the AC unit professionally cleaned and inspected at the same time as the bird deterrent installation.

Avoid electric shock strips unless the infestation is severe. They are more expensive and require more maintenance.

All pest control companies operating in Dubai must be licensed by Dubai Municipality. Always ask for the licence number before hiring. An unlicensed operator has no accountability if the work is ineffective or causes damage.
